The company has been out of business for decades, but the boats live on!
It seemed like a good idea to gather some information about the company, and more importantly, the boats we own, in one place.
It is hoped that this can be a resource for Prairie (and Atlantic) boat owners and maybe a way to connect with other owners.
As a new owner of a Prairie 36 I’m looking forward to exploring the site.
I’m a happy to find this website with some information about my prairie 29 Coastal Cruiser hull #34

We have inherited a Prairie 46, Hull #5.
In the process of refurbishing her in Louisiana.
Hello prairie owners. I believe I have one of the 6 , 46.75 foot prairie hulls made . Not sure the hull number?? I just found your site in my research. Sadly my father just passed and I am in charge of selling his beloved boat the Dater D. It has only 10o hours on its replaced engines. While it needs some tlc it’s a really good boat for somebody who loves prairies and knows what they are getting. Our prairie has a back cockpit the dater d is currently Located in Georgetown Yacht Basin on the sassafras’s river in MD. I am hoping maybe someone here may be interested or know someone interested. Bruce . On boat trader and on Jamison yacht brokers website. Bruce Jamison has been tasked with selling the boat. It just needs a new lover of prairies❤️🙏😊!
There is probably a brass plaque somewhere in the cabin showing the Prairie logo and the hull number. The hull number is also part of the “HIN” (like a “VIN for a car) which should be stamped into the transom, usually on the starboard side. The first three letters will be “PBJ” for Prairie Boat Works. The next five are the hull serial number. So hull 6 would be “PBJ00006…” The last four are the month and year.
Repowered with Yanmar 240hp engines 20 years ago by previous owner.
Hello…my wife and I have been bringing back to life hull #5 … 29′ Prairie.
It has been lots of fun…took it to Florence Alabama for the winter…and really enjoyed it.
Just bought (not installed yet) a NextGen 3.5 diesel genset. Got it from the manufacturer in
Jacksonville Fl. It was repowered in 2007 with a 52 Yanmar and we loved getting an average of 6.5 mpg! Has a new Lewmar bowthruster…new bridge bimini and cockpit bimini.
Boat is laid out very comfortably.
The vessel we own was previously known on Youtube as the Mischief … tons of great videos by the previous owners. She sat in a boatyard in Maryland for several years neglected. We saw her…bought her…and looking forward to lots of cruising. We also have a 1972 36 Gulfstar with a 120hp Lehman which will soon be on the market. Yes we love older trawlers…tons of character in them.
Great to see some other Prairie lovers!
