Like many owners of Prairie trawlers, the Prairie Boat Works company started out with sail. Their first design, the Prairie 32, was a cutter-rigged monohull sailboat reportedly designed by the company’s founder, George S. Hawn, JR.
Prairie 32
The Prairie 32 had a long keel with transom-hung rudder. It had a LOA of 31.67 ft. (9.65 m), a LWL of 25.68 ft. (7.82 m) and a beam of 11.12 ft. (3.39 m).
Sail area was reported to be 578.00 ft². Displacement was 17,300.00 lbs. with 7,000.00 lbs. of lead ballast. It’s maximum draft was 4.50 ft. (1.37 m). Standard auxiliary power was a reportedly a Yanmar diesel although they have been seen in the wild with Perkins diesels, which were common in the later power boats. The Prairie 32 had tankage for 40 gallons of fuel and 100 gallons of water.
